April Rose Gabrielli: “A Woman of Substance”

April Rose Gabrielli is about to become the next biggest thing. Coming off of her first film premier where her song “Tameless” was chosen to represent the movie “Not The Science Type.” She is a BMG/AWAL/SONY singer, songwriter, musician and poet. She has already performed all over the world either headlining or as one of the band. Signed by Tribeca Records a SohoJohnny enterprise her debut single “Do You?” was recently released and is making a big splash in the indie music world.

How has your career evolved since its start?

Quite a bit, I started as a dancer, discovered musical theatre, played keys on my own and got on stage with rock bands. I’ve been so lucky to play and write with a bunch of great artists along the way. I’ve learned to “let go” a lot more and understand that a lot of life is not in our control, so I just do my best to enjoy the ride, make art that feels good and surround myself with great people who keep me in check. A good life for me is all about a healthy balance and I am realizing that a good career is very much the same.

How have your biggest influences influenced you?

My biggest influences have taught me that I have the ability to have a lot of personal power and strength to overcome. Not much is in our control, but our perspective on all of it is. Easier said than done, especially in the darkest of times. I admire the fearlessness of opinion and expression of some of my favorite artists, poets and icons – whether it is in the way they speak openly about their experiences or play and perform with a unhinged, free way about them. I like people who are tough, confident, kind and humble – I am most inspired by the effortlessness of those qualities in people, too.

How do you hope to influence others?

I hope that I can inspire anyone to push themselves and remain resilient in pursuit of their dreams and goals.

What music do you listen to other than your own?

I take a lot of time away from my own music especially once it’s done. I am more obsessed while working on it!

I listen to my friends’ music a ton (whether I am working on it, lending an ear or just enjoying it) – lots of KULICK, Kevin Eiserman, Ryan Cassata and I love many of the songs my Brother and Mom have each written!

Some names you may find on my spotify… Regina Spektor, Sia, LP, Florence + The Machine, Patti Smith, Queen, Tom Petty, Kings of Leon, The Beach Boys, Biffy Clyro, Manchester Orchestra, Bowie, ABBA, Prince, Jagwar Twin, Muse, P!nk, Pat Benatar, Caroline Polachek, Orla Gartland & Halsey

What is your ultimate goal?

At the moment… to be healthy.

What is your favorite movie and why?

I don’t have a favorite movie, but Donnie Darko is one of the only movies I’ve watched more than once — I just loved how creepy and reality bending it was at certain moments. I felt like I existed in the aura of that movie for many years. I don’t relate to it as much anymore, but I will forever love the soundtrack of the entire thing.

Do you have a bucket list?

Conceptually yes, but I should probably write it down somewhere.
